Night Two Win of URSS Speedweek Goes to CJ Johnson
Night number two of the Inaugural
United Rebel Speedweek saw thirty-two cars checked in at the
pit gate to do battle on the Bullring at the Rush County
Fair. The tight ¼ mile track would make for close racing
with 20 Sprints on the track for the Feature. When the
battle was over, Quinter Kansas’s C J Johnson would work his
way through traffic to claim the win.
Jetmore Kansas’s Randy Washburn led the
field to the green and quickly jumped out to the lead with
LaCrosse Kansas’s Kirby Hagans claiming the runner up spot
with Paul Flynn, Darren Bowman and Tanner Mullens rounding
out the top five. Washburn would hold the top spot until lap
three when Hagans took the position. Flynn turned up the
pressure the leaders as he dogged the pair before taking the
top spot on lap eight. Flynn stretched out his lead as CJ
Johnson and Smokey Fairbank had made their way to the fourth
and fifth spots respectively by lap nine.
Johnson battled Hagans for several laps
until grabbing the runner up spot on lap fourteen and set
his sights on the leader. Fairbank passed Washburn for the
fourth position on lap fourteen and on lap fifteen, Fairbank
took third from Hagans. Flynn’s lead was slowly shrinking
when on lap fifteen Johnson had pulled along side Flynn
going into turn-three when Flynn’s engine erupted with an
oil fire to bring out the red flag ending his run for the
night.
On the restart, Johnson jumped back out
to the lead with Fairbank in pursuit. Back in the pack, the
“Kansas Tornado” Jon Johnson had been working his way
through the field from his twelfth starting spot to grab the
fourth spot from Washburn on lap nineteen. Behind Washburn a
trio of URSS Young Guns were lurking in the shadows and
steadily making their way through traffic as Taylor
Velasquez, Tanner Mullins and Taylor Milton fought for the
sixth, seventh and eight spot. Velasquez held Mullens off
for the sixth position lap after lap as Brian Herbert joined
the battle with Milton for the eighth spot.
As the checkered flag flew it was CJ
Johnson picking up the win with Smokey Fairbank, Kirby
Hagans, Jon Johnson and Randy Washburn rounding out the top
five.
The Weld Racing Wheels “Hard Charger
Award” went to CJ Johnson who came from his tenth starting
position to claim the win.
Jon Johnson raced his way from his
twelfth starting spot to finish fourth in the A-Main to pick
up the Keizer Racing Wheels B-Main Award.
