URSS
Continues Phenomenal Growth for 2008
Wednesday November 7th - Due to the overwhelming growth and interest in
the United Rebel Sprint Series (URSS) founder and promoter Rick Salem
has announced the series will split into 3 to 4 regions for the 2008
season. “This is something that is needed at this point to continue the
growth of this 305 sprint car series. We have many new competitors
coming into this class because of its affordability and great
competition, and I feel we will have even more if we can try to limit
the traveling as much as possible. A lot of guys want to run this series
because it is the most affordable sprint car series in the nation, but
just can’t afford all the traveling we have done in the past. So in
order to accommodate them and keep this Series growing we will develop
regional sanctioned areas” said Salem.
In 2008 the United Rebel Sprint Series will split into three to four
distinct regions. The Northwest Division covering Northwestern Kansas,
Northeastern Colorado and Southwestern Nebraska.. The Southern Division
will cover Southwestern Kansas, Southeastern Colorado as well as the
Panhandles of Oklahoma and Texas. The Eastern Division will encompass
the Eastern half of Kansas, along with Southeastern Nebraska and the
Western Missouri areas to open up the Region to those Racers from that
area also. Another region is also being planned for Central Colorado,
Southern Wyoming, and Eastern Utah.
With only two seasons under its belt, the URSS has grown to have over 60
drivers compete in the series in 2007 with a projected 20 to 30 new cars
being built for the upcoming year. The 2008 season is already being
planned with races being booked that will include a $2000 to win show at
the RPM Speedway in Hays Kansas during their fair on July the 12th
and 13th. This race will include all divisions of the URSS
and should produce the largest 305 field ever assembled in the nation.
Other new venues for the upcoming season will be the addition of DCRP in
Dodge City, Ks as a regular URSS race track in the southern division.
The racetrack in Hayden, Co has also asked for 6 to 8 races and the
addition of other tracks in that area will allow another division in the
state of Colorado, Utah and
Wyoming. Additional racetracks in the
eastern part of Kansas will include Whiskey Lake Raceway in Junction
City, Ks who intends to host two races monthly and with the addition of
more tracks in that region will allow 305 racers to compete for a URSS
Championship in the Eastern division also.
Salem feels the growth of this series is due to its affordability to
racers and also promoters and tracks. If you are interested in racing
the most affordable sprint car series in the Nation, or if interested in
having the United Rebel Sprint Series featured at your facility, contact
Rick Salem at 785-475-7010, by e-mail at

Rebels to Battle “With and Without Wings”
At The Rush County Fair
Wednesday
July 18th - URSS Founder Rick Salem is taking the wings off his
traveling band of Rebels for an event that is sure to be race you will
not want to miss at the Rush County Fair in Lacrosse Ks. August 4th
the Rebels will follow their
regular format with a full program of heats and Features and as soon as
the 25 lap feature is finished there will be a short break and they will
hit the track once again for a second 20 lap “Wingless Feature” that is
sure to have the fans on the edge of their seats the entire race.
Salem pointed out, “I don’t think this has ever been tried before and I
feel it is something that very well could be one of the most interesting
and exciting shows for our fans. I know the drivers who have never
driven a sprint car without wings will get a thrill out of backing one
of these beasts in the corner and have a great time doing it. The Rush
County Speedway is the perfect track to take them off and if it works
for everyone it is something that I will look at in the future to do
more often. I really feel there are a lot of people who want to watch
them again without wings and I would like to bring that form of Sprint
Car racing back”.
The 20 lap Wingless Feature will be a non points race but will pay money
and will be optional for those who wish to compete. Series veterans like
the “Kansas Tornado” Jon Johnson, Brian Herbert, and Larry Radcliffe
will return to their roots while a host of the newer drivers will be
experiencing their first taste of how it feels to actually back it in
and ride the ragged edge without the help of a wing.
Also competing will be the Hobby Stock division. So mark your calendars
and plan to witness this historic event as the United Rebel Sprint
Series turn back the clock to go Sprint Car Racing the way it used to be
on Saturday August 4th at the Rush County Fairgrounds in
Lacrosse Ks. Races start at 7:00 pm.
