Jake Bubak Notches Preliminary Night Win At Lexington
Jake Bubak scored the Preliminary Night victory in The Dawson County Raceway’s “Summer Heat Sprint Nationals” Saturday leading all 25 laps out route to the win. Twenty five teams make the pull to the 3/8’s mile oval in Lexington, Nebraska for race number four of the 2015 Myers Engine URSS National Point Series. The fans were not disappointed as the Rebels put on a show with side by side action lap after lap and drivers coming from deep in the field to challenge the leaders.
Hill City’s Jeff Radcliffe led the 20 car field to the green flag but it was fifth starter Jake Bubak who slingshot his way to the lead at the end of lap one with Radcliffe, Scott Cochran, Zach Blurton and TJ Artz rounding out the top five. Lap three saw Blurton take the third spot from Cochran with B Feature winner Zac Taylor rocketing through the field to take over the fifth spot from Artz. Taylor quickly made his way to the third position on lap four and quickly set his sights on the runner up Radcliffe. Thirteenth Started Jed Werner had been steadily making his way through the pack and made his way up to the fifth spot by lap five. Lap six saw the first caution fly when Tom Belsky rolled to a stop in turn three.
On the restart Bubak once again jumped out to the lead with Zac Taylor, Zach Blurton, Jed Werner and Scott Cochran in the fifth position. Lap seven saw fifteenth place starter Mark Wllinder make his way up to challenge Jeremy Huish for the sixth spot with Walinder making the pass to close up behind teammate Cochran on lap nine. The running order stayed the same until lap thirteen when Cochran had closed the gap between himself and Blurton until a miscue caused Cochran to spin in turn four to bring out the second caution of the race.
On the restart Bubak jumped back out to the lead with Taylor hot on his tail tank but before the lap could be completed a bobble by Taylor in turn four caused him to spin bringing out the third caution. On the ensuing restart Bubak would once again assume the point with Werner, Blurton, Cranston and Wallinder in tow. Cranston had steadily been grabbing spots as he methodically made his way towards the front runners. Soon Lance Davis made his way to challenge Walinder for the fifth position and took the spot on lap seventeen. Behind them the pair of Brian Herbert and Jeremy Huish were coming up to challenge Walinder for the sixth spot.
As the leaders once again encountered lapped traffic Bubak wove his way through it with Werner, Blurton, Cranston and Davis giving chase. Jordan Randles who had quietly making his way up to the sixth position and was on Davis’s rear bumper looking to take the spot away and made the pass on lap twenty two. The final caution waved on lap twenty three when Tom Belsky did a soft roll between turns one and two.
On the restart Bubak once again assumed the point with Werner in the runner up spot, Cranston taking the third spot from Blurton and Randles rounding out the top five. Jeremy Huish took the sixth spot from Davis with Herbert challenging for the seventh spot. With the white flag fell one of the best battles going on was for tenth spot as Zac Taylor and National Points Leader Steven Richardson were duking it out. Taylor who had earlier spun while battling for the lead had made his back through the pack from the tail end of the field. Taylor took the spot for good on the final lap to come away with a top ten finish
Jake Bubak took home the preliminary night win with Jed Werner, Luke Cranston and X+Zach Blurton locking themselves into the final night A Main starting grid. In fifth was Jordan Randles with Jeremy Huish, Lance Davis, Brian Herbert, Mark Walinder, and Zach Taylor rounding out the top ten.
