Mitchell Moore Captures First URSS Win at LA Raceway

The United Rebel Sprint Series blasted back into action for the 2010 race season in the “Show Me” state of Missouri on April 10. Twenty-nine teams assembled for versus battle between Rick Salem’s Rebels and some the fastest shoes from across the border. When the dust had settled, it would be Edgerton, KS native Mitchell Moore, holding on and finding victory lane for the first time with the United Rebel Sprint Series.

Twenty teams would make the call for the border war on a near perfect evening at LA Raceway but before the drop of the green flag, outside row two starter Austin Alumbaugh would slow on the backside with mechanical issues. The field of nineteen would then take the green led by Ryan Schlender.

The caution would fly time and time again on the opening start as the field tried to settle down. Several Rebels would be caught up in the fray in the early going including Darren Bowman and Keefe Hemel.

Action would be halted for a red flag refueling stop. With the field in survival mode the green flag would be displayed once again, this time it would count. As the field flew by the flag stand Moore would grab the early advantage with Schlender, Smokey Fairbank, Ty Williams, and Timothy Wheeler checking into the top five.

The action would be halted on the third circuit as the caution would wave again. Moore would still hold the point with Schlender, Fairbank but Kenny Potter would move to fourth with Williams dropping to fifth. Just outside of the top five would be Jetmore shoe Ray Seemann and Dodge City’s Brian Herbert.

Back under way it would be Moore and Schlender once again breaking away from the pack with Fairbank, Williams and Potter battling for position.

Caution would fly once again on the eighth circuit and Potter would drop from the field ending a top five run. Once, again Moore would bring the field back to the green flag with Schlender in tow, Fairbank third, Williams fourth and Matt Close moving into the top five. With laps winding down Moore would continue to show the way with Schlender dogging him for the top spot. Fairbank would control the third spot on the low side and Williams would push the limits of LA Raceway hanging out high wide and handsome on the cushion.

The driver to watch though would be the Sedalia, MO, driver of Haley Arnold. After earning a transfer position from a last chance B-main qualifier, Arnold would survive the open race mayhem, weaving her way to sixth with five to go.

Just as Schlender and Fairbank narrowed the gap on the leader, the checkers flew and Moore checked into victory lane for the first time in 2010 and the first time as a Rebel. Schlender would settle for second with Fairbank third. Timothy Wheeler would find his way back into the top five nabbing fourth and Ty Williams rounded out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Hayley Arnold who charged her way through traffic from her 19th starting spot to finish in the sixth position.
