Ray Seemann Grabs URSS Win With Late Race Pass at Rush County Speedway
The United Rebel Sprint Series rolled into the Rush County Speedway Saturday night to close out the 2009 Rush County Fair in style. The standing room only crowd was treated to a 25 lap, caution free Feature that kept the fans on their feet until the checkered flag fell. Jetmore Kansas racer Ray Seemann used lapped traffic to his advantage as he pulled off an amazing pass on a surprisingly tacky and fast track with two laps to go to take his first feature win of the 2009 season.
Wakeeney Kansas’s Travis Decker led the field to the green as outside pole-sitter Michael Williams jumped out to the lead with Decker, Corey Lutters, Reed Bernbeck and Willie Wynn rounding out the top five after lap one. Lap three saw Ray Seemann break into the top five with Paul Flynn hot on his heels. The Father and Son duo of Jon and CJ Johnson soon joined Flynn to pressure Seemann for the fifth spot. Willie Wynn got back around Flynn for the fifth spot on lap nine, with Seemann turning up the heat on Lutters for the third position.
Up front Williams was starting to encounter lap traffic on lap ten as the torrid pace, Williams wove his way through the field as the second through fifth place drivers began gaining ground. Seemann and Lutters used lapped traffic to make their way to the second and third spots with CJ Johnson hot on the heels on lap thirteen. Johnson then made the pass for third on lap fourteen, leaving Lutters to battle Flynn the fourth spot.
Soon the top four where all together, battling their way through traffic. Williams continued to hold the point with Seemann, Johnson and Lutters all in his tire tracks. Flynn and Jon Johnson weren’t far behind weaving their way to the leaders. Williams kept his advantage as the laps were winding down, each lap picking and choosing his line to keep his lead. Seemann and CJ Johnson were trying to use the lap cars to their advantage as they closed in on the leader.
With two go, Seemann and Johnson saw their opening as Seemann used a lapped car as a pick with CJ Johnson in tow to take over the point. Flynn and Jon Johnson immediately pressured Williams as the white flag fell, but Williams held his line and used the traffic to his advantage to hold the third spot. As the checkered flag was displayed in was Ray Seemann picking up his first URSS Feature win of the season with CJ Johnson, Michael Williams, Paul Flynn and Corey Lutters edging out Jon Johnson for the fifth position.
The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Ray Seemann who came from his eighth starting position to take the victory.
