Ty Williams Claims URSS Win at Lamar Speedway Debut
The United Rebel Sprint Series made their debut at the new Lamar Speedway and the fans on hand were not disappointed as the Rebels put on a show. Mother Nature gave the Rebels a beautiful night for racing put played her hand to the contrary for six Colorado Teams as a Spring Snowstorm stranded them on the Western Slope of the Rockies. When the checkers fell it was Ty Williams taking the win.
Hugoton Kansas’s Barry Crane led the field to the green and jumped out to the early lead with Smokey Fairbank, Ty Williams, Ray Seemann and Jerry Caldwell rounding out the top five. Exiting the second corner Crane spun leaving him precariously parked in the racing groove, miraculously the entire field split the stalled car.
On the restart, Ty Williams jumped out to the lead with Smokey Fairbank and Ray Seemann in his tire tracks. A little further back Jerry Caldwell had is hands full with Brian Herbert dogging him for the fourth spot. Herbert took the position and quickly was challenging Fairbank for the third spot as Seemann took the runner up spot on lap four.
Back in the pack Barry Crane was on a tear as he made his way back up into the top ten by lap eight. Crane was using ever inch of the racing surface to make up ground. Crane battled Michael Williams and Reed Bernbeck for several laps making a pass for position only to have a caution wipe out the gains. Crane finally made his way past Michael Williams and took over sixth place on lap eleven.
Crane set his sights on fifth place as he and Jerry Caldwell fought for the position until Brian Herbert and Smokey Fairbank tangled in turn three to bring out the caution. On the restart Ty Williams jumped back out to the lead with Seemann still holding down the second spot. Crane quickly jumped up to the third position as Caldwell and Tim Perkins battled for the fourth spot, the duo were soon joined by Reed Bernbeck to duke it out for positions four through six.
Up front, Ty Williams continued to open his lead up each lap as the leaders came up on traffic. With the white showing, Williams led the field down the back stretch with Seemann several car lengths back looking for a break to make up ground going into the final corners. Williams made his way around a slower car and took the checkers with Ray Seemann, Barry Crane, Jerry Caldwell and Tim Perkins rounding out the top five.
The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” went to Mike Anderson who came from fifteenth starting spot to finish in the eighth Position.
