Martin Takes Second URSS Win Of Season

JETMORE — Jason Martin went where no other driver wanted to go. The line
took him straight to the front of the pack and led him to his second win
this season.
Martin put on a dominating performance Saturday night at the Great American
Dirt Track at Jetmore Motorplex in the third United Rebel Sprint Series race
of the season — one that featured 34 cars passing through the gate.

“I knew I was just going to have to go where they weren’t,” Martin said.
“They made a really nice change in the track, and you could have gone
anywhere. I just went where everybody wasn't.” Martin, who won the May 8
race at Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla., started eighth Saturday
night and made quick work getting to the front.
Luke Cranston started outside the front row and led the first three laps,
but by the third lap, Martin already had moved up to second, followed by
Taylor Milton, Mike Woodruff and C.J. Johnson. On the fourth lap, Martin
made his way around Cranston and checked out from the rest of the field.

“He got through traffic a little quicker than I did,” Johnson said about
Martin. “But I'm not for a second going to think I was faster than he was.
No way. He was definitely faster. There was a little time in there where he
got hung up on some cars, and I thought I was maybe catching him a little
bit. But it was very little, and once he got going again, he was gone. He
was definitely fast.” While Martin extended his lead, Johnson worked his way
up into the runner-up spot on lap eight, and Josh Fairbank moved into the
top three behind Johnson on lap 12. By that time, Martin was well into lap
traffic. “I got caught up behind a couple of lap cars a couple times, and I
usually don't look back,” Martin said. “But I knew that dad-gum red car (of
C.J.) was right there, and I kept looking back but never heard him. I knew
he was going to be right there. I wasn't for sure how big the lead was, but
it felt good.” Martin bolted through the lap traffic en route to winning by
nearly half a lap in the caution-free race.

Johnson finished second, followed by Fairbank in third — one of his best
finishes in the URSS. “We've got the best 305 racers in probably the
nation,” Fairbank said. “There are some different rules, but I think if they
came to play with our rules, I think we could beat them — no doubt. When you
can run top three with the guys we've got, you're not bad.”
Ray Seemann started 14th and finished fourth to earn the Keizer Aluminum
Racing Wheels Hard-Charger Award, and Brian Herbert was fifth.

Heat races winners were Johnson, Martin, Kory Lira and Woodruff.
