Davis snags second URSS win at Jetmore

JETMORE — Saturday's United Rebel Sprint Series race at the Great American Dirt Track at Jetmore Motorplex had a lot of similarities to the last time the Rebels competed at the 3/8-mile dirt oval.  But the only similarity Lance Davis really cared about was he was standing in the winner's circle for the second time in as many races in Jetmore.

Davis saw himself battling Ray Seemann and Darren Bowman once again for the win, just as he did July 23 at the track.

“The second win was just as good as the first one,” Davis said. “And there were two No. 9 cars up there and the 72 again.”

On July 23, Davis grabbed the early lead, then fell back to fifth before rallying for the win ahead of Bowman and Seemann. Saturday night's race saw many similarities.

Davis started inside the second row and took the lead coming out of the second corner on the first lap. He built a comfortable lead until the latter portion of the race. That's when Davis, who was running the high side, had to hit the brakes hard to avoid a car going off the track into the pits.

That cut into his momentum and allowed Seemann and Bowman to close the large lead. Seemann was able to sneak by Davis down low to take the lead, but Seemann got caught up in lap traffic in turns three and four. Bowman flew past both drivers using the middle line, and Davis darted back to the bottom line and eventually got by Bowman and back into the lead.

“There's always one of those guys coming,” Davis said about the pursuers. “It sure makes you nervous when you're following cars and you can't get around them quick enough.”

It was Davis second URSS win of the season, and he joined Jason Martin as the only drivers to win multiple times at Jetmore this season. He was the first back-to-back winner at the motorplex.

“I guess how I feel the second time is, well, you never get tired of winning,” said Davis, who battled through some struggles with his car early in the season. “It's nice. It feels like we're getting the car tuned in. … We're finally getting something that's working and feel the car is fast.”

Seemann would finished second, while Brian Herbert — who leads the national points — was third. Josh Fairbank finished fourth, and Tyler Knight rounded out the top five. Bowman watched a good night end after breaking, finishing 15th.

Heat race winners were Seemann, Connor Atkinson and Knight.

The Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award went to Barry Crane, who started 17th and finished ninth.
