Blurton snags second URSS win in 2011
NORTON — It had been since the end of May since Zach Blurton got into victory lane. That changed Sunday night at the big half-mile dirt oval of Elmwood Park Speedway in Norton.
Blurton won his second United Rebel Sprint Series feature of his career in a thrilling battle.
“It was a good race from start to finish,” Blurton said. “I got the lead, and then Josh Fairbank got by us. Then I reeled him in and passed him. Towards the end, it was Pat (Bourke) and I battling.”
Those three drivers waged a war on the fast track for the majority of the race.
“That place is fun,” Blurton said. “I like those big half-miles. It was pretty much foot on the floor the whole time. It was a good track.”
After Blurton got by Fairbank, Bourke reeled the Jetmore driver in, and the two battled the rest of the race. On the final lap coming out of turn four, Blurton had a slight advantage, only to see the red flag wave for Blake Smith Jr.
On the restart, Blurton stuck to the bottom and held off Bourke for the win.
“It feels pretty good to be up front in first,” Blurton said. “It's been awhile.”
Bourke finished second, followed by Fairbank and Ray Seemann in fourth. Adam Trimble rounded out the top five.
Heat race winners were Seemann, Blurton and Judd Sheaffer.
Brian Herbert won the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award, starting 17th and finishing sixth.
