Bourke Doubles Up With URSS Feature Win At Holyoke
Patrick Bourke ended the Western Region opening weekend the same way he started it picking up his second win in as many nights. The URSS Series made its debut at the season opener at the half-mile Phillips County Speedway in Holyoke Colorado, and when the checkered flag fell the fans in the stands were treated to fantastic finish.
Ransom Kansas’s Ken Lutters led the field to the green and grabbed the early lead, as Randy Bantam, Smokey Fairbank Billy Bingham and Bill Hays all were hot pursuit. The “Kansas Tornado” Jon Johnson along with Patrick Bourke started to make their way up through the field, and set their sights on the top three. Lutters began to creep away from second place Bantam as Fairbank followed close on his bumper.
Lap eleven saw the caution wave and on the ensuing restart, Fairbank made his way to the runner up spot with Bourke and Johnson quickly making their way past Bantam for the 3rd and 4th spots. Lap eighteen saw the front close up and going into four Bourke used the high side to slingshot his way past Lutters and Fairbank to take the lead and never look back with Ken Lutters, Fairbank, Johnson and Randy Bantam rounding out the top five.
The “Weld Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award” went to Patrick Bourke who came from his 9th starting position to pick up the victory.
Heat Race winners were Patrick Bourke and Ken Lutters.
