Ty Williams Claws His Way To URSS Win at I-76 Speedway
The United Rebel Sprint Series mad e its final appearance at the I-76 Speedway in Fort Morgan Colorado as the Rebel made their back to the ¼ mile oval. Seventeen teams made the trek to the final Dual Region show of the year. When the checkered flag fell it was Ty Williams taking the hard fought battle over Barry Crane who led all but the last two laps of the race to take the win.
Blake Bogenhagen of Cheyenne Wells Colorado led the field to the green but it was short lived as the caution waved and field reset. On the restart Ulysses Kansas’s Barry Crone vaulted out to the lead with Bogenhagen, Smokey Fairbank, Nick Haygood and Raymond Seemann rounded out the top five after lap one. Fairbank soon nabbed the runner up spot away from Bogenhagen on lap four Adam Trimble taking fifth away from Seemann as well.
Ty Williams who started in ninth at the green flag had worked his way up to the fifth spot by lap five, Bogenhagen took the second spot away from Fairbank on lap six bringing Haygood with him sending Smokey back to the fourth spot. Williams use the high line to launch himself to the second spot on lap seven and he set his sights on Crane. Both drivers where using the cushion to work their way around lapped traffic a sthe laps continued to count down until a caution flew on lap eleven.
On the restart Crane once again grabbed the point as Williams, Haygood, Seemann and Brian Herbert rounded out the top five. A little farther back Blake Smith Jr. had caught Fairbank and was looking to take away the sixth spot. The pair was soon joined by Adam Trimble as the trio fought for position for several laps with Fairbank holding down the position at the stripe each lap. Caution once again waved and slowed the field once again on lap eighteen.
On the restart it was Crane once again jumping out to the lead with Williams and Haygood hot in his tracks. The trio at times went three wide into the corners clawing for traction as the laps began in dwindle. Raymond Seemann and Brian Herbert were trying to track down the front three as lapped traffic would once again play a role in the out come.
With three laps to go Crane was still using the high line all around the track, Williams knew he couldn’t use the same line to pass Crane. Williams slung his ride to the low side in turns three and four and began to gain ground on Crane. Williams made the pass stick on lap twenty-four as the white flag was displayed and went on the grab the win with Haygood making a last lap pass on Crane, with Seemann and Herbert rounding out the top five.
Ty Williams picked up the Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” racing his way to the win from his ninth starting position.
