Brian Herbert Wins URSS Three-Wide Thriller At I-76 Speedway
The United Rebel Sprint Series made its second appearance at the I-76 Speedway at Fort Morgan Colorado. Despite Mother Nature’s best effort to wash out the nights Feature, hard work by the Track Staff made the wait well worth the effort as the fans were treated to a twenty-five caution free shootout with a three way dog fight to the finish with Dodge City Kansas driver Brian Herbert made his way to the Winners Circle for the third time in 2010.
Cal Martindale led he field to the green flag with Blake Bogenhagen jumped out to the lead with Zach Blurton, Brian Herbert, Nick Haygood and Smokey Fairbank rounding out the top five after lap one. Blake Smith Jr, and Ty Williams started to make their way to join the fray driving their way to the fifth and sixth spots respectively. Up front Herbert had caught Bogenhagen and was pressuring him for the top spot. Herbert took the position for good on lap eleven.
Immediately second place Bogenhagen was pressured by Haygood for the runner-up position. Bogenhagen and Haygood battled for the second spot until Haygood took the position on lap sixteen. Lap seventeen saw Zach Blurton step up to challenge for the third spot as he joined Bogenhagen and Smith to slug it out for the third spot. Blurton took over the spot on lap seventeen but gave it back on the follower lap.
Meanwhile Ty Williams was quietly making his way up through traffic and joined the battle for the third spot. Lap nineteen saw Williams make quick work of Blurton for the fifth spot. Williams using the high line took over the third spot as he used the momentum to pass Bogenhagen and Smith on lap twenty.
Williams soon would join Herbert and Haygood in a three-way battle for the top spot that would last the final five laps. The trio would mix it up as they all jockeyed for position splitting lapped traffic as they made the most of it to try and slow each other to gain the spot. The white flag lap saw the trio enter turn three close enough to throw a blanket over them. Herbert held his line coming off of turn four with Haygood on the top and Williams diving to the bottom to set up drag race to the checkers.
As the trio hit the stripe, it was Brian Herbert edging out Haygood and Williams with Blake Bogenhagen and Blake Smith Jr. rounding out the top five.
