Ray Seemann Scores Opening Night URSS Win At Steve King Memorial

The United Rebel Sprint Series rolled into the Great American Dirt Track as part of the Second Annual Steve King Memorial weekend as thirty-six teams checked in at the gate. Although the track was a little heavier than the Rebels are used to racing on, the action was fast and furious with a battle royal between two of the hot shoes of the URSS Series, Ray Seemann and Jason Martin put on a show as they battled each other weaving in and out of lapped traffic. In the end it was a hometown driver Ray Seemann grabbing the hard fought win.

Kansas City Kansas’s Corey Lutters led the field to the green and jumped out to the lead with Jordan Randels, Darren Bowman, Ray Seemann and Richie Dewell rounding out the top five. Jason Martin and Josh Fairbank hooked up in their own battle for the fifth and sixth spots were close behind the leaders. Martin took the position from Fairbank on lap three. Seemann battled Bowman for the third spot and grabbed the position on lap six. The caution waved on lap seven for the stalled car of Josh Fairbank who came to a stop in turn two.

On the restart, Lutters once again jumped out to the lead with Seemann taking over the runner spot from Randels on lap eight. Jason Martin made his way to the third spot on lap nine bringing Bowman and Brian Herbert with him relegating Randels to the sixth spot. Seemann and Lutters continued their battle for the point as Seemann dove to the bottom of turn one to take the position away. Jason Martin soon pressured Lutters as the pair were locked in a drag race down the back stretch with Martin using the low line to take the position on lap thirteen.  The caution once again flew on lap fifteen as Lance Davis jumped the cushion in turn four and came to a stop.

On the restart, Seemann flew to the lead but behind him the field bunched up causing several cars to check up and lose positions. Richie Dewell and Keefe Hemel jumped into the top five with Lutters and Herbert falling to ninth and tenth spots. Jason Martin set his sights on Seemann as the Liberal Kansas driver used the bottom line to try to make up ground as Seemann continued to use the cushion to keep the point. As the pair started to encounter lapped traffic, Seemann used the traffic to his advantage.

With the white flag in the air, Martin tried one more attempt to make the move on Seemann but it was to no avail as Seemann took the win in front of the hometown crowd. Martin took the runner up spot with Richie Dewell, Darren Bowman and Keefe Hemel rounding out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminum Wheels “Hard Charger Award” was picked up by Ray Seemann who battled his way from his ninth place starting spot to pick up the win.

Heat Race Winners were: Ray Seemann, Josh Fairbank, Jason Martin, Darren Bowman and Cody Salem.
