Keefe Hemel Hangs On For URSS Win At Dawson County Raceway

The United Rebel Sprint Series made its second visit to the lightining fast 3/8’s mile oval in Lexington Nebraska and the Rebels did not disappoint the fans with a caution free 25 lap Feature with a last corner challenge for the second night in a row. Track Announcer Darin Racek passed along this information; a Dawson County Deputy clocked several Rebels at 103 mph on the backstretch with one Sprinter hitting a staggering 106 mph.  When the dust settled, Dodge City Kansas Keefe Hemel picked up his first URSS Feature Win of the 2010 Season.

Shawn Radcliffe led the field to the green but it was Rookie Zach Blurton jumping out to the lead with Radcliffe, Hemel, Raymond Seemann and Smokey Fairbank rounding out the top five at the end of lap one. Hemel and Seemann quickly made their way past Radcliffe relegating him to the fourth spot on lap two. Current Kansas Points leader Ty Williams starting his charge to the front as he caught Radcliffe and Fairbank and passed the pair to take over the fourth position on lap four.

Soon the battle for the fifth spot started to heat up as Saturday’s Feature winner at I-76 Speedway Brian Herbert made his way through traffic to challenge Fairbank. Up front Hemel had caught up to the leader and was looking to use lapped traffic to take the top spot from Blurton.  Hemel used a lapped car to trap Blurton and take the lead on lap eleven.

Blurton refused to take the miscue lying down as he latched on to the leader and pressured Hemel lap after lap. Back in the pack Seemann and Williams were looking to make up ground on the leaders. Hemel started to lengthen his lead over Blurton until he drifted up the track on lap eighteen allowing Blurton to make up ground.

Blurton wove his way through lapped traffic and used it to his advantage as he continued to close the gap on Hemel. On the last lap Blurton dove underneath Hemel as the pair entered turn three. Blurton’s car struggled to find the traction needed to make the pass as Hemel took the victory with Blurton, Raymond Seemann, Ty Williams and Smokey Fairbank rounding out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminium Wheels "Hard Charger Award" was won by Raymond Seemann who came from his 6th place starting spot to race his way to a 3rd place finish.
