Bourke doubles up in Vernal
VERNAL, Utah — Patrick Bourke kept his dominance going in the Colorado Region of the United Rebel Sprint Series during the weekend.
Bourke won both features Friday and Saturday night at Diamond Mountain Speedway. It was the fourth Colorado Region win this season for the veteran sprint car driver.
“It's basically experience,” he said. “I've been doing it for so long, nothing is new. … We're just trying to have fun this year.”
Bourke won the region's first two races at Holyoke, Colo., and Fort Morgan, Colo. His two wins in Utah gave him his second weekend sweep in the URSS.
Bourke started in the back both nights and quickly made his way to the front en route to the wins.
“I jumped up around the top and went,” he said.
While the veteran earned two more wins, he also liked the fact he could help some of the younger drivers competing as well.
“I like to try to coach and mentor the guys a little bit,” Bourke said. “A couple young guys, I've been pretty impressed with.”
Bob Schaeffer ran second to Bourke on Friday night, while Judd Sheaffer and Jake Bubak rounded out the top four.
Tim Perkins was second to Bourke on Saturday night, with Bubak in third and Schaeffer in fourth.
“I think Timmy Perkins likes the place,” Bourke said. “We won last year out here, and we has second Saturday night.”
