Radcliffe back in victory lane in URSS

LEXINGTON, Neb. After working on his car all day, Jeff Radcliffe was exhausted and out of energy. Nearly a week removed from a bad bout with pneumonia, the Hill City driver still was weak and lethargic.

But his performance Sunday night at Dawson County Speedway in Lexington, Neb., helped offer a cure of sorts

Radcliffe claimed his third career United Rebel Sprint Series victory with late heroics.

It was a long night, Radcliffe said. I about didn't get to race. We worked on the car all day, and that had me down. I told Dad I just might take the green and pull in. I chugged a lot of Gatorade and water. Once I took the checkered flag, I felt a little better.

Radcliffe started eighth in the feature and soon found himself in the third spot behind his brother, Shawn, and Mark Walinder.

Shawn Radcliffe started on the pole and ran one of his best races in the URSS.

I was running third, and my brother led most of it, Jeff Radcliffe said. I thought he was going to win it. There was him, Mark Walinder and I. As the track dried out, I think everyone else became looser, and the track kind of came to us.

As the top drivers prepared to take the white flag, Radcliffe saw his opportunity late to overcome Walinder for the win.

As we were coming off of four, I seen his car tail off, and I knew he was getting loose,” Radcliffe said. I went into one and drove it in hard and got around him. Then Walinder went hard into three, and I knew he was going to hit that slick spot and spin the tires a bit. That was a close race. If the fans didn't enjoy that, I don't know what they would.

Walinder finished a close second, with Brian Herbert in third and Tommy Williams in fourth.

It seemed like forever ago since we won,” said Radcliffe, who won the second day of the season-opener in Beaver, Okla., to start the year.

Heat race winners were Herbert and Mike Saathoff.

Radcliffe won the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard-Charger Award, moving up seven spots to win.
