Martin wins again at Beaver

BEAVER, Okla. He might have taken a short hiatus from behind the wheel. But once Jason Martin got back into his United Rebel Sprint Series sprint car, he didn't miss a beat.

Martin won Saturday night at Beaver County Raceway in Beaver, Okla., taking his second win at the track this season.

It's been a little while,” Martin said. We've been playing baseball with the boy and getting ready to move. We've had a couple of weekends off. We've just got a bad habit, and we had to go racing.

Martin started ninth and worked his way to the front. But it wasn't exactly the style Martin is known for.

The Liberal driver who is moving to Lincoln, Neb., this week, usually motors around the high side of tracks to work his way to the front. But Saturday night, that wasn't the fastest line.

I probably could have gotten the top to come in, but the bottom was working so well, he said. I didn't want to move off the bottom, but the car wasn't set up to run the bottom. So that made it interesting.

The race was a dogfight in the early laps, with Cody Caldwell and Keefe Hemel battling it out. Then Martin and Ty Williams entered the mix.

But once Martin got into the lead, he quickly started to distance himself until a yellow flag bunched the field back up.

The restart was no match for Martin, though, who pulled back away for another URSS win.

We get around Beaver pretty good, Martin said. I like race tracks that are slick and dirty. It was good. It just wasn't where you stick it up there at the top and hammer down.

Williams finished second, with Seemann in third and Hemel in fourth.

Heat race winners were Seemann and Williams.

Martin won the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard-Charger Award.
