Hardman takes second URSS win at Calhan
CALHAN, Colo. — The feeling wasn't the same as the last time, but Brian Hardman was just as happy. Hardman won his second race in a row Wednesday night at El Paso County Speedway in Calhan, Colo., in the United Rebel Sprint Series' Colorado Division.
When the Rebels competed June 9 on the track, Hardman won his first career URSS race. “It wasn't quite like the first one,” he said. “There's something special about the first one, but it was equally as fun. I always have fun in the car.”
Hardman started outside the front row for the feature, alongside his father, Butch. On the second lap, Hardman jumped into the lead. “Through turns three and four, the car carried a lot of speed and you could feel the wing working,” he said. “In one and two, you had to let off and let things happen.” Hardman led the race until the halfway point, when the red flag waved. But the driver was able to hold off the rest of the pack during the final half of the race to take his second win in a row at the track.
“I was pretty sure there were guys coming up on me,” he said. “I'm not sure it had too much to do with the driver. God really blessed me again.”
Adam Trimble was second to Hardman, followed by Jake Bubak and Patrick Bourke in fourth. “They were charging pretty hard,” Hardman said. “If they had a couple more laps, they probably would have done it. Second place congratulated me after the race but said he was coming up on me fast.”
Heat race winners were Jeff Heffner and Bourke.
Bob Scheaffer won the Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard-Charger Award, moving up five spots to finish fifth.
