 
Coby Pearce Wins Colorado URSS opener

Golden Colorado’s Coby Pearce took top honors at the URSS Colorado Region’s season opener to claim his very first URSS “A” Feature victory. 18 cars checked into El Paso County Speedway in Calhan Colorado and left the fans standing on their feet and cheering for more when it was over.

Pearce, starting on the pole with Green River Wyoming’s Zac Taylor brought the field to the green with Taylor jumping into an early lead. Taylor would continue to lead with Pearce in hot pursuit with 4^th starting Patrick Bourke jumping into 3^rd on lap 2, passing rookie Nic Sutton in 4^th and John Jacob rounding out the top 5 until the one and only red flag flew for a flipping Clint Schubert on lap 12 after making contact with Brian Hardman on the back straightaway. Schubert was unhurt, disgusted and both he and Hardman were done for the night.

On the restart it would be Taylor, Pearce, Bourke, Jacob and Zach Merritt rounding out the top 5.and 10^th starting Jake Bubak moving into 5^th place before the lap was completed. The field would remain that way until lap 17 when Bubak would move into 4^th getting around Jacob.

It would remain that way until the leaders encountered lap traffic starting on lap 21. Bubak took advantage by using a lap car as a pick and moving around Bourke. Lap 22 would see Taylor momentarily slowed by lap traffic and Pearce seizing the opportunity to blast past Taylor to take the lead. Bubak would then wrestle his way past Taylor on lap 23 to begin pressuring Pearce with Taylor and Bourke all over his back bumper.

Pearce would hold off the trio as the crowd were on their feet and cheering wildly as Pearce took the checkered flag for his first URSS win. Bubak would finish 2nd with Taylor, Bourke and Jacob rounding out the top 5 spots. 6th thru 10th finishers were Nic Sutton (rookie), Joey Schmidt (rookie), Jeremy Huish (rookie), Scott Cochran and Mike Taylor (rookie).

A jubilant Pearce stated “What a fun race that was. I’m sure glad to get a First Win under my belt”.

The Colorado Region will return to El Paso County Speedway on May 31^st. Races start at 5:00 pm.
