Sid Blanford Captures URSS Win At Vernal Utah

The United Rebel Sprint Series made its first appearance of the 2009 Racing Season at the Diamond Mountain Speedway in Vernal Utah. The fans were treated to some old fashioned racing as Sid Blanford used “the Slide Job” to perfection to pick up his first URSS win of the year.

Parker Colorado’s Tim Perkins led the field to the green as outside Pole sitter Patrick Bourke from Gypsum Colorado jumped to the early lead. Sid Blanford was the man on the move as he worked his way to the third position by lap three and turned up the heat on Perkins for the runner up spot.

Lap three saw Blanford use a classic slide job to take the point away from Bourke in corners three and four. Bourke was not ready give up as he stayed glued to Branford’s tire tracks and fought to take the top spot away. After a yellow for a spun car on lap fourteen, Bourke took the lead again as Blanford jumped the cushion in turns one and two, Blanford quickly recovered and retained the runner up spot.

 Blanford continued to dog Bourke for the top spot, as the pair entered turns three and four Blanford once again took the lead as he used another slide job to gain the spot back. As the pair fought down the front-chute contact was made sending Bourke sliding down the wall going into turn one. The flagman not knowing both cars had continued, inadvertently threw the caution.

On the restart, Blanford checked out to a five-car length lead he would never relinquish, Bourke settled for the runner up spot with Jeremy Lueck, Tim Perkins and Judd Schaeffer rounding out the top five.
